Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday confirmed that the Centre will implement the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, and it will soon be passed in the Parliament.
The announcement was made by the Union Home Minister while attending a massive public rally at West Bengal.
Addressing the gathering, Amit Shah said that the Hindu refugees will not have to leave the country, fearing they are not the citizens of India. He confirmed that they will be granted citizenship through the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.
Shah added, “TMC MPs will try to stop us and not allow the passing of the Citizenship Bill in the Upper House. Last time, they did not allow us to pass the Bill, due to which our Hindu refugee brothers and sisters are yet to gain Indian citizenship.”
He also ensured that the National Register of Citizens (NRC) will be implemented shortly thereafter. It is pertinent to mention here that West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, in a recent meeting with Shah, had vowed that she would not allow the Bill to be passed in her state.
