The Mizo National Front (MNF) Government in the state of Mizoram has reportedly enacted a regulation to ensure that the influx of illegal immigrants is kept at bay. The Government is reportedly waiting for the Narendra Modi-led Central Government to bring the regulation into practice.
It has been reported that Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga on Thursday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his nod to enact the Mizoram Maintenance of Household Register Bill, 2019.

According to officials, the bill seeks to identify and check the influx of "illegal foreigners". Furthermore, it will also help maintain law-and-order in the state and protect the indigenous people as well as "genuine citizens."
According to the provisions under the Bill, a record of all the genuine inhabitants, including photographs, will be kept, which will help in identifying foreign nationals.
It may be mentioned that Mizoram, which shares international borders with Bangladesh and Myanmar, has become a hotbed of unlawful activities such as human trafficking and drug smuggling, which has caused a great deal of concern to the indigenous residents.
