Parliament's Winter Session to Take Up Controversial Citizenship Bill; Northeast Rises in Protestcontroversial

Guwahati, November 17, 2019:

The nearly month-long winter session of Parliament beginning November 18 will see over 35 legislations taken up, including the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, which amends the definition of illegal migrant, and the 'Personal Data Protection Bill'.

In reaction to this, the North East Forum for Indigenous People (NEFIP) has resolved to resume mass agitations against the "genocidal Bill" and also, the "authoritative attitude" of the GOI from the 18th of November 2019, onwards.

The North East Forum for Indigenous People has pledged to organize and design the Mode of Agitation, according to the 'ground realities'.

The organization has also resolved to bring an understanding among different likeminded Social Organizations to oppose the Bill, collectively.

Further, the NEFIP has resolved to request all the MPs and the Members of the respective State Legislative Assemblies of the NE Region to oppose the said Bill.

The Federating State Organizations of NEFIP since the introduction and passing of

the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 on the 8th January, 2019 have been incessantly opposing the said Bill.

On 9th August, 2019 a memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister had been

submitted through the Head of the States followed by another submission of the same to the Chief Ministers of the region on the 3rd October 2019, appraising therein the possible devastative effects it may cause, if enacted, to the entire NorthEast Region.
