AHAAR: FIRST ASSAMESE ABSURD PLAY BY ARUN SARMA

First Assamese absurd play "AHAAR" staged in 1976 at Rabindra Bhawan, Guwahati

The play was written by noted playwright late Arun Sarma

The play is among the greatest ever written starring Purnima Saikia and Rabin Neog

This production was staged for 9 (Nine) consecutive days at a stretch.

Ahaar can be counted as one of the best plays of Shri Arun Sarma.

The set design of this play, which featured a three-dimensional (3D) representation of the renowned North Brook Gate, was another very intriguing aspect.

Unfortunately, due to some problems resulting from the play's subject matter, the production was unable to run for more performances.

Both inside and outside the state, no longer were plays encouraged.

The performances on each of those nine days, however, were fantastic, as was the theatre, which was filled.

Surprisingly, Arun Sarma's 'Ahaar' helped start a trend of frequent theatre attendance among the Guwahati people.
