Top 8 evacuation operations by India

Operation Poomalai (1987) On June 4, 1987, the Indian Air Force launched Operation Poomalai which is also known as ''Eagle Mission 4''. The mission was launched to airdrop supplies over the town of Jaffna in Sri Lanka to support the Tamil Tigers during Sri Lankan Civil War.

Kuwait Airlift (1990) The royals and VIPs fled to Saudi Arabia when 700 tanks and 100,000 Iraqi soldiers marched into Kuwait. The common people were left behind. Over 1,70,000 Indians were stranded in Kuwait. To rescue them, India started the evacuation mission and airlifted all the Indians.

Operation Sukoon (2006) India launched this operation, now known as the "Beirut Sealift," to rescue its stranded citizens as a war between Israel and Lebanon started in July 2006. It was the largst naval rescue mission since "Dunkirk," evacuation. Between July 19 and August 1, 2006, the task team evacuated 2,280 persons, including some Nepalese and Sri Lankan nationals.

Operation Maitri (2015) It was a joint resue operation by the Indian government and the Indian Armed forces in the aftershock of the 2015 Nepal earthquake. A total of 5,000 Indians were brought to India from Nepal with the help of Air Force and civilian planes. Besides this, the Indian Army successfully evacuated 170 foreign nationals from the US, the UK, Russia and Germany.

Operation Raahat (2015) This opertaion was launched following a conflict in 2015 raged between the Yemeni government and Houthi rebels. Under the Operation Raahat, nearly 5, 600 stranded people were evacuated from Yemen.

Operation Sankat Mochan (2016) Operation Sankat Mochan was carried out by the Indian Air Force during the South Sudanese Civil War to rescue Indians and other foreign nationals from South Sudan. The operation was carried out in response to the 2016 clashes in Juba.

Operation Dost (2023) Following a devastating earthquake that struck Syria and Turkey on February 6, 2023, the Indian government launched Operation Dost to rescue Indians. 

Operation Kaveri (2023) This operation has been launched to rescue over 3,000 Indian people stranded in Sudan following the fighting between the army and a paramilitary force. As per External Affarirs Minister (EAM), around 500 Indians have arrived at Port Sudan.
