In order to popularize bamboo and its benefits, a mobile application named Bamtech was launched in Itanagar by Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Thursday.
Speaking about the application, Mein said that the app will benefit the local youths, artisans and entrepreneurs of the state to explore opportunities in the commercialisation of bamboo. The app holds information and features regarding the usage of bamboo in various ways.
He added that Arunachal Pradesh has a huge resource of Bamboo with 74 species of bamboo and 15000 sq kilometres of bamboo coverage. “This should not just be limited to the local people or usage. We must find a way to utilize this resource fully”, he added.
CEO of South Asia Bamboo Foundation (SABF), Kamesh Salam speaking on the app said that this app will be helpful in promoting bamboo housing under Prime Minister’s Awaas Yojna, home-stay housing and tourist cottages.
He added that bamboo housing could be the solution to India’
“Bamboo could be the sustainable material and solution to India’s plan to construct 3 crore houses by 2022,” he said.
