In a memorandum submitted to Governor BD Mishra at Pangin, Siang District on Tuesday, the Adi Baane Kebang Youth Wing led by President, Aling Pinggam, V/President, Sanju Taloh and Spokesperson, Jobomchang Mengu has appealed for naming the newly constructed bridge over River Dibang as Sikang Bridge.
The ABKYW said that, this river Dibang flows between various Adi villages of Lower Dibang Valley district while bisecting 42nd Dambuk Assembly Constituency into two blocks, Dambuk and Meka block. The local inhabitants of these villages have known this river Dibang as ‘Sikang River’ since time immemorial which was named Dibang by some non-residence in recent time, reads the memorandum. To this regard, the ABKYW Dibang Valley district unit has also already submitted a memo to Chief Minister and ABKYW opined hope that the Governor will keep the sentiments of the local inhabitants.
Meanwhile, in response to the memorandum, Governor Mishra has assured to look into the appeal on urgent basis for which a fact finding committee headed by an IAS officer will be constituted and following reports, the naming will be finalized. During the meeting of ABKWY with the Governor, Pangin-Boleng MLA, former Minister, Tapang Taloh and DC Siang, Rahul Singh was also present.
The newly constructed bridge over river Dibang in between Bomjir and Meka village under Dambuk Sub-Division with a total length of 7.5 KMs being constructed by Navayuga Dibang Infra Projects Pvt. Ltd. is now said to be under controversy as other community is also interfering it to be named something else. But ABKYW has made it clear and appealed both Chief Minister and Governor that, the sentiment of local inhabitants be upheld and the said bridge be named as Sikang bridge.
