GUWAHATI: The COVID-19 warriors of East Siang District in Arunachal Pradesh comprising members from various organizations like ABKYW, ESDSU, ABSU, LBSU, BBSU and AMCSU have decided to stop their service amid an ongoing tug of war with police.

The Covid-19 warrior team has called for an emergency meeting on June 20 under the Chairmanship of advocate Taber Tamuk to discuss covid warriors' duties after a confrontation with the Superintendent of Police.

After a threadbare discussion, the covid warrior team declared not to cooperate with the District Administration and police in covid related activities and decided to stop working until the incumbent superintended is removed.

"If District Administration fails in management of covid cases in the district, we will carry out our covid warrior activities in new nomenclature and shall work independently. If DA and Police, in particular, fails to handle the crisis of covid-19 cases and shows any laxity by police personnel, we will take up the matter in social media", said Manning Moyong.

Sumit Kr. Jha, SP of East Siang District has claimed that there were reports that their people (covid warriors) were collecting fines, coercing and manhandling shopkeepers in the name of Covid donation.

"I stopped the things immediately and asked them to discontinue their duties. If stopping such illegal activities which are done for the benefit of a few is equivalent to creating a nuisance, I have no regrets in creating such nuisance then", added Jha, the new SP, a young IPS officer of 2017 batch AGMUT cadre who has waged a war against rampant drug menace in the district in coordination with Women Against Social Evils (WASE).
