The Congress party has appointed former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Nabam Tuki, as the President of party’s Arunachal Pradesh unit, replacing Takam Sanjoy.
“Congress President has appointed Nabam Tuki as PCC president for Arunachal Pradesh and Lombo Tayeng, MLA, as the leader of Congress Legislature Party in Arunachal Pradesh assembly,” a statement issued by the party said.
“The party appreciates the contribution of outgoing PCC president Takam Sanjoy and CLP leader Takam Pario", read the communique.
Although Rahul Gandhi has announced his resignation as Congress president after the Lok Sabha election, the Congress Working Committee has not accepted it yet, but there are reports that the party is seeking for an interim President who will lead the grand old party during RaGa's absence.
In subsequent statements issued by the party on appointment of leaders, it has been mentioned that these have been approved by the Congress president.
It is to be mentioned that Tuki, 55, held the position of Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister position twice between 2011 and 2016. His first term spanned between November 2011 and January 2016, while the second term merely lasted for 3 days in the month of July 2016.
Tuki served as state National Students' Union of India president (1983 to 1986) and was the Chairman of North East NSUI Coordination Committee (1984 to 1986). He was the General Secretary of All India NSUI (1986 to 1988) and Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress President (1988 to 1995).
