Arunachal Govt warns state colleges for operating without proper certifications

ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Commission (APPEIRC) today warned colleges across the state for operating without proper certifications.

In a meeting held in Itanagar, where out of 19 private colleges representatives of 12 colleges at ESS sector here today APPEIRC Chairperson Marnya Ete warned that the private colleges running without proper documents, violating the University Grants Commission (UGC), National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and other authority’s norms may face the “consequences” if they don’t take corrective measures within the stipulated time-frame.

Institutions running only for commercial purposes compromising the quality of education will have to face the consequences, he said.

"According to the Commission's power and function, we can penalise and issue shutdown notices to any college that is not following the laid down norms and jeopardising the future of the students,” warned the APPEIRC chief.

Requesting that college administrators adhere to all of the established standards, he stated that the Commission will not tolerate any lax attitude toward the New Education Policy's established standards or efforts to undermine educational quality.

The APPEIRC chief stated that there are at least 19 private colleges in the state and that his team will soon visit each one "to see the ground reality."

He also said that meetings with the heads of colleges will be held every three months to receive updates on their performance and other institutional matters.

Furthermore, many colleges appointed postgraduate teachers who do not have a bachelor's degree in education. Ete warned all private colleges to follow the guidelines or risk having their colleges closed down by the commission.

Professor Debabrata Das, an APPEIRC member, expressed concern about colleges failing to follow the NEP guidelines and urged them to do so as soon as possible. He also requested that each college's administration maintain the teacher-student ratio as well as the "qualification" of teachers in order to provide quality education in their respective colleges.
