Arunachal: Nabam Rebia condemns village renaming & other 'childish things' China is doing

ITANAGAR: A Rajya Sabha MP from Arunachal Pradesh has been swift in condemning the controversial renaming of 15 places of Arunachal by China as reported by Global times.

Nabam Rebia, Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament from Arunachal said, "It's not a new thing, China has been doing this since long.

China knows very well that Arunachal is an integral, inseparable part of India but they have other stand claiming Arunachal illegally.

It is a futile attempt on part of China and we strongly condemn renaming of villages and the childish things China is doing."

Indian and Arunachal governments should react to this renaming and global media should know that Arunachal is a part of India and all Arunanchalees are patriotic Indians, Rebia added.

China has announced Chinese, Tibetan and Roman alphabet names for 15 more places in India’s northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh, which it claims as South Tibet.

China’s ministry of civil affairs announced that it had standardized in Chinese characters, Tibetan and Roman alphabet the names of 15 places in Zangnan, the Chinese name for Arunachal Pradesh, state-run Global Times reported on Thursday.

Among the official names of the 15 places, which were given exact longitude and latitude, eight are residential places, four are mountains, two are rivers and one is a mountain pass, the report said.

This is the second batch of standardized names of places in Arunachal given by China.

The first batch of the standardized names of six places was released in 2017.

Responding to China’s latest move, Ministry of External Affairs’ official spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said: “We have seen such reports.

This is not the first time China has attempted such a renaming of places in the state of Arunachal Pradesh. China had also sought to assign such names in April 2017. Arunachal Pradesh has always been, and will always be, an integral part of India. Assigning invented names to places in Arunachal Pradesh does not alter this fact.”

The India-China border dispute covers the 3,488 km long LAC.
