ITANAGAR: An army jawan of the 4th Sikh Light Infantry Regiment was killed and seven others seriously injured when their truck skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge between Pango and Palsi under Tuting sub-division in Upper Siang district this morning.
The deceased has been identified as Sepoy Jasman Singh. His body was later taken to Rayang Military Station.
The Army truck was carrying 11 soldiers when it met with the accident, official sources said.
“Today, early morning, an Army heavy vehicle carrying troops to Tuting in the AOR of 49 Bn ITBP met with a serious accident due to inclement weather conditions, between Pango and Palsi," the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBP) said in a statement.

ITBP team under command of Veterinary Officer Dr. Anoop Kumar Nayak, Deputy Commandant (Vet), who was deployed with the Animal Transport Logistic BOP (Border Outpost), rushed with emergency intravenous supply and immediately started field critical treatment to save lives of the troops and many of them were stabilized.
“One Army soldier however expired, but 7 seriously injured were stabilized by the ITBP Veterinary Officer and has stopped massive haemorrhage and prevented hypovolemic shock by immediately using banana leaves as bedding and has started emergency intravenous stabilization,” the statement said.
When contacted, Tuting ADC Starlie Jamoh informed that four critically injured jawans were evacuated by an army helicopter.
One of them was admitted at Dinjan Army Base Hospital in Assam’s Tinsukia district, while three others were taken to the Army Base Hospital in Guwahati.
