The local police of Miao district in Arunachal Pradesh, along with 171 BN CRPF, raided several drug centres in the district today with an aim to check 'anti-social' elements.
The joint raid was headed by Officer Incharge Inspector Ege Ete and OC (CRPF) B. Majumdar. The team seized adulterated brown sugar substances amounting to 16 gm worth Rs 12,000. A few drug addicts were also apprehended during the raid.
A lady identified as Smti. Indenthu Singpho has been apprehended and booked under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
It is to be noted that Miao local administration has banned all forms of intoxicating items. The Miao police have been actively trying to curb drug abuse and trafficking that has been on the rise in the state.
As per reports, the United Miao Mission and Miao Singpho Ramma Hpung have thanked and congratulated Miao police for apprehending the lady. In a joint statement, the organizations extended their support and cooperation in dealing with drug traffickers.
Drug abuse has been a recurring issue across the northeast Indian states. The youth have been involved in drug peddling and consumption over several decades now. Organizations and police, together, have been actively engaging themselves in breaking the vicious cycle of drugs.
