Arunachal | Politicians' relatives apprehended with heroin in Itanagar

Itanagar, May 19, 2019:

Two youths have been apprehended with 37 grams of heroin from the Capital Complex area of Arunachal Pradesh capital Itanagar. According to reports, the two youths who have been apprehended with the unlawful substance have been identified as Bengia Rigia and Sosar Punung.

Sosar was found to be in possession of 31 grams of heroin and the rest of the 5 grams were recovered from the possession of Bengia. The seized substance of worth over Rs. 3 lakh.

A team of police which had been formed exclusively to tackle drug-related crimes acting on a tip-off, apprehended the duo for possession of the potent narcotic.

Sosar was arrested from a government quarter in Vivek Vihar area of the city, while Bengia was arrested from his personal residence at the Mowb-II area.

Both the accused persons were found to be relations of top politicians of the state.

While Bengia Rigia is the son of People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) chief Kahfa Bengia, Sosar is the brother-in-law of Congress’s Palin constituency candidate Takam Pario.

Apart from heroin, a hundred plastic tubes used to sell drugs have also been recovered from the possession of the suspected drug dealers.

Capital superintendent of police Tumme Amo said that cash worth Rupees 61,000 was also recovered from the possession of the duo.

It may be mentioned that the drug menace continues to be a lingering issue in the Northeastern state Arunachal where many youths have fallen prey to the habit of using needles. This, in turn, has led to many problems for the youth of Arunachal Pradesh.

Common side effects of using heroin include respiratory depression (decreased breathing), dry mouth, drowsiness, impaired mental function, constipation, and addiction. Side effects of use by injection can include abscesses, infected heart valves, blood-borne infections, and pneumonia.
