The All Arunchal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) while expressing concern on the reported qualification of Chakma & Hajong candidates in NEE-2018 under Mizoram seats has strongly opposed the results and demanded immediate cancellation of their selection & admissions in NERIST, the premier educational institute of the State.
In this connection, a team of AAPSU visited NERIST premises on Wednesday and apprised the Director of the recent results of NEE-2018.
The AAPSU stated that through reliable sources in the recent NERIST entrance results a number of Chakma & Hajongs were found to be qualified under Mizoram seats.
“The problem is that the Chakma & Hajong refugees have been a burning issue in our state since 1960s. They were given illegal settlement in some pockets of Arunachal Pradesh in the year 1964. At present juncture, the absorbing of candidates from the said communities will affect the academic atmosphere of the institute,” said the Union, in a release.
Moreover, the AAPSU, the State’s apex students’ body which is spearheading the refugee movement in Arunachal, opined that the recent “development” in the institute will create psychological implications.
Demanding immediate cancellation of their (Chakma-Hajongs) selection in NERIST, AAPSU expressed instead of them the eligible tribal applicants belonging to Mizoram must be replaced straight away.
Opining to forbid admission of any Chakma & Hajong community student in the institute until the “vexed” issue of Chakma and Hajong refugees in the State is solved, AAPSU said: “Such situation will hamper the conducive atmosphere of education in the premier institute.”
