The members of Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC) on Saturday took out a “Bharat Bachao” bike rally from Nyikum Niya ground, Nirjuli to Akashdeep, Itanagar.

Shouting ‘Bharat Bachao’ slogans, hundreds of APYC members, riding on bikes, covered around 20 Km after Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Takam Sanjoy and AIYC national secretary Monalisa Banerjee, in-charge of the state, flagged off the rally from Nirjuli. The rally was led by APYC president Geli Ete and vice president Giogi Ganga, and Banerjee.

“With no governance, rising inflation and continuing negligence of the downtrodden sections of the society, it is high time to awaken the masses towards the harsh reality,” APCC president Sanjoy and Banerjee said.

Earlier in the morning, the police stopped the APYC members to carry out rally from Nyikum Niya ground stating that the district magistrate had refused permission on account of the Vice President’s visit to the state. The situation reportedly led to a fierce argument between APCC president and police officers on duty.

Claiming that the permission was sought two weeks ago, the State Congress president said that without any prior intimation denying the rally on the spot is unfortunate and amounted to provocation.

“It is a democratic country and we cannot be prohibited from conducting rally just because Vice President arrived here a day in advance,” Sanjoy lamented.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu arrived here on Friday afternoon from Bagdogra though it was scheduled for Saturday for which security was tightened.
