Guwahati, January 4, 2019:

Five hunters have been arrested at Arunachal’s East Siang district today for hunting a protected hog deer at the Dayang Ering Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary. The hunters, who are repeat offenders, were apprehended at Sanyasi Tukura under Anchalghat Range.

The five hunters have been identified as Dibash Pait, Diganta Doley, Batsa Doley, Rajesh Sungkurang and Nong Doley. Dy. FR Orin Perme led the team of wildlife staff in nabbing the hunters. DFO Tasang Taga also rushed to the spot and affirmed that the hunters will be punished in accordance with existing wildlife laws.

The hunters were found with a hog deer carcass. Twelve bore guns, fourteen live cartridges and three mobile handsets were found on the hunters. They have been handed over to the police.
