Arunachal Pradesh Football Association Appoints Pema Khandu as its New President

Itanagar, August 13, 2019:

The Arunachal Pradesh Football Association (APFA) in its special general body meeting held on August 13 declared Chief Minister Pema Khandu as the acting President of the Association.

Assuming the role as President of APFA, Chief Minister promised to work at all levels to spread the popularity of football in the state. He said football being a poor man’s sport, people from any background can dream big — though lack of proper coaching facilities, infrastructure and good football academy in the state are concerns that need to be addressed.

Chief Minister said the immediate next step for the Association will be to organise the 25th National Senior Women’s Football Championship, which will be held in the next month.

Making the announcement on social media platform Twitter, Khandu wrote,"Today assumed the role as acting President of Arunachal Pradesh Football Association (APFA) during its general body meeting. I love football and will see that it becomes the heartbeat of our state."

Earlier, outgoing APFA President Takam Sanjoy also spoke on the occasion. Present in the meeting were representatives from district football associations and members of APFA. The Khandu Government has been trying its best to develop the game of football in the region and former Indian skipper Bhaichung Bhutia was also recently seen in Arunachal trying to promote the 'beautiful game'.
