PAPUM PARE: The under-construction steel Bailey bridge over the Shu river - on the Nechipu-Hoj NH 13 (Sagalee-Seppa road) - between Mepsoro and Geram villages in Arunachal’s Papum Pare district collapsed on Saturday.
According to reports, a few commuters narrowly escaped unhurt when the bridge collapsed and no casualty was reported.
PWD Highway Chief Engineer S Sumnyan informed through social media that the bridge “developed distress during construction and it was not open to traffic.”
When the project manager of the executing agency, M/s Sushi IRVCL, who was awarded the construction work directly by the union road transport & highways ministry was asked for a reaction on the incident they didn't replied.
Meanwhile, Papum Pare SP Neelam Nega informed that no complaint has been received at the Sagalee police station so far. “However, the Papum Pare police have deployed force to tackle any law and order situation in the place,” he further said.
Local youths blamed the construction company as the bridge was made with low quality materials and in a very slow manner.
A Youth complained about the low quality work to the higher authorities but all in vain which resulted collapse of this bridge before inauguration.
