Arunachali Novelist's Debut Novel Selected for National-Level Award

Itanagar, July 7, 2019:

Arunachali author Joram Yalam Nabam’s novel titled ‘Junglee Phool’ has been selected for the 12th Ayodhya Prasad Khatri Smriti Award, 2019.

A three-member selection committee comprising of Dr Veer Bharat Talwar, Prof Ravinder kumar Verma and Viren Nanda has unanimously selected her book, which is also the first novel by the author, for the award.

The novel revolves round the immortality and positive aspects of Abo Tani, deviating from the common folklore surrounding the mythical figure. There is a micro analysis as to how Abo Tani is a legendary father figure.

The award is instituted in the name of Ayodhya Prasad Khatri, a prominent writer in Hindi literature. Those who have been conferred with the award include luminaries such as Krishna Baldev Ved, Shekar Joshi, Dr Tulsiram, Dr Rose Kerketta, Anil Yadav, Sudhir Vidyarthi, Dr vinay Kumar, Walter Bhengra, and Nida Nawaz.

The award will be conferred in the month of November, 2019 at Muzaffarpur in Bihar.

It may be mentioned that Abotani, or Abu Tani, is considered the primal ancestor of the Tani (tribes) group of people in Arunachal Pradesh, such as the Apatani, the Nyishi, The Adi, The Galos and Tagin. They follow the Donyi-Polo religion and consider Abotani as the one who firstly introduced the technique of rice cultivation in the world.
