While extending their activities in regard to fighting against drug menace in the region, on Sunday last an awareness campaign and a coordination meeting was conducted at Torajan village under Dhemaji District of Assam by Women Against Social Evils with the women and youths of Torajan village to unitedly fight against drug trafficking /abuse along the borders of Arunachal and Assam.

As per reports, several cases of drug abuse were reported from the Assam side of East Siang district and the menace across the boundary was largely affecting the WASE’s fight against drug menace as most of the drug supply comes from Assam side.
Appreciating and learning from the yeoman services of WASE in fighting against the drug abuse which is a serious social menace today as many youths are falling prey to it, the youth and womenfolk of Torajan village invited the WASE activities and shown a desire to work with WASE in containing drug menace in their areas also.
In the meeting, WASE appraised the Torajan youth and women about the NDPS Act and appealed for the coordinated fight against drug abuse by both parties. Many youths, women and affected family members from Torajan spoke about the ill effects of drug abuse on the society in general and the family in particular, informed Joya Tasung Moyong, WASE General Secretary.

In the meeting both the parties unanimously decided to form a Torajan WASE unit to check unknown persons and prohibition of entry inside Torajan village after a certain time in the night, to form an advisory body, members comprising of Torajan senior members and WASE members, information sharing between Jorajan unit and WASE with an aim to conduct time to time coordination meeting, etc. With the formation of Torajan WASE unit, WASE has increased to 4 Units in Assam which includes the villages of Leku, Jelom, Jonai, and Torajan unit, added WASE sources. After the meeting, WASE along with the Torajan women went to a dreaded drug peddler's house and asked the peddler to stop selling drugs and also asked him to give up drugs himself.
