Arunachal: Governor BD Mishra lays foundation stones of Major Ralengnao Bob Khathing

TAWANG: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig. (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) today laid foundation stone of Major Ralengnao Bob Khathing Memorial Museum in presence of Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu, Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K. Sangma, Union MoS Sport and Youth Affairs Kiren Rijiju and Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat.

 

CM Sangma paid tribute to the great Major Ralengnao Bob Khathing whose name is synonymous with bravery.

 

Speaking at the foundation laying ceremony of the museum, he said, Tawang is a sacred place for the state and 70 years ago on this day Major Khathing made history by establishing Indian administrative control over Tawang”

CM Sangma stated that the establishment of this Memorial will go a long way in keeping the memory of Major Bob Khathing alive.

He further commend his friend CM Pema Khandu and the government for ensuring that Major Khathing’s legacy is given its due recognition.

 

CM Sangma took to Twitter and wrote, “Major Bob Khathing secured Tawang for #India & unfurled the tricolour on this day, 70 yrs ago. Today, Govt of Arunachal Pradesh through CM @PemaKhanduBJP Ji honours his legacy by laying the foundation for the "Major Ralengnao ‘Bob’ Khathing Memorial Museum" in Tawang.”

 

 

 

 

 

CM Pema Khandu wrote, “Major Ralengnao 'Bob' Khathing, an Unsung Hero of Arunachal is finally honoured today. A momentous occasion to take part in laying of foundation for memorial of Maj Khathing, who established administrative post in #Tawang in 1951 for the first time as per 1914 Shimla Convention.”

 

 

 

 

 

Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju wrote, “Finally, an unsung hero, the legendary Maj. Bob Khathing has been given due honour by unveiling his statue and laying a foundation stone to built a magnificent museum in honour of the soldier who led the team to establish formal Indian administration over Tawang in 1951.”

 

 

 

 

 

Major Ralengnao Bob Khathing who was more popular as Bob is still remembered by the people of Tawang in Arunachal for establishing Indian control over the area when the threat of China loomed 70 years back and for his contribution to Arunachal Pradesh.

 

Major Ralengnao Bob Khathing born at Ukhrul in Manipur in 1912, Khathing had served in the British Army in the Second World War. He was awarded the Military Cross and received the Member of British Empire (MBE) as well. He was also the ambassador of India to Burma in 1972, also he was the first tribal to become the Ambassador of India.
