ITANAGAR: The Border Roads Organization (BRO) on Saturday apologized to the people of Arunachal for renaming Kimin as "Bilgarh" in Assam and concealing Arunachal's name with white paste during Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's recent visit to Kimin to inaugurate roads.

According to the BRO, whatever it had done was "unintentional and unwitting."

“With folded hands, I request apology from the people of Arunachal Pradesh,” Additional Director General of Border Roads (ADGBR-East) PK Singh stated. “Whatever fault we did was unintentional and accidental. We have no intention of hurting the state's feelings”, he added.

"The tragic situation was simply an unintentional mistake made under the stress of organising the event while racing against the clock. The BRO has no wrongful aim of upsetting the feelings of the people of Arunachal Pradesh in any way," Singh said.

“The event was originally planned from Huri in Kurung Kumey district, but had to be transferred to the plains due to prevailing monsoon conditions,” according to the ADGBR.

The ADGBR (East) went on to say that during his visit on June 15, he had accidentally proposed that two signboards – one at the helipad and the other at the main entrance to the ITBP campus – be made neutral in order to avoid any controversy on the day of the inauguration.

When the DGP of Arunachal Pradesh was informed about the boards, he approached the ADG (East) and informed him of the sensitivity and sentiments of the local population. He refused to agree to the idea and requested that no existing sign be changed, he stated.

Acting on the suggestion, he said that "the status quo was ensured instantly on the same day on June 15," two days before the inauguration.

The ADGBR (East) said that "any action whatever happened was absolutely intentional."

The BRO ADG, who claimed sole responsibility for the incident, stated that there was no direction from the Centre and the state to rename Kimin as ‘Bilgarh' in Assam, and that “the Google map on that particular site is extremely confusing.”

According to the ADGBR (East), with this declaration, the BRO "affirms its resolve and dedication to the state's development and believes that we along with the people of the state will continue on the path of progress and prosperity hand in hand."
