NEW DELHI: Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan has written to Chief Secretaries of all the northeastern states except Mizoram, urging them to ensure strict compliance of COVID appropriate behaviour in the respective states. 

In the letters, the Health secretary asked them to share action taken report in terms of directions issued under Disaster Management Act. 

The states have been asked to take strict containment measures and speed up the testing process.

Augmentation of health infrastructure and effective clinical management have also been directed to the states.

Taking about vaccination, the Health secretary urged the states to accelerate the vaccination drive of all citizen aged above 18 years.

Apart from the 7 northeastern states including Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, Assam, Manipur, Sikkim, Rajesh Bhushan also wrote to the respective Chief Secretaries of Odisha and Kerala.

He further informed that any state reporting 10% or more positivity rate of COVID-19 should be put under restricted inter-state isolation.

Expressing concern over the COVID scenario in the country, the Union Health Secretary said that if the situation is not taken seriously, it won't take too long for third wave and its intensity could be alarming.
