ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu has announced that the Union Cabinet yesterday approved revised cost estimates for the comprehensive scheme for strengthening of transmission and distribution in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim at an estimated cost of Rs 6541 crore for Arunachal Pradesh and Rs 9130 crore combining Sikkim.

“Union Cabinet today approved RCE for the comprehensive scheme for strengthening of T&D with estimated cost of Rs 6541 Cr. The Trans-Arunachal 132 KV grid and 33KV radial grid connecting remote locations will become a reality. Heartfelt gratitude to Honble PM Sh @narendramodi ji,” CM Khandu tweeted.
Khandu arrived in Sikkim yesterday evening for a two-day visit. Khandu said that he was paying a personal visit. He will speak with Sikkim chief minister Prem Singh Tamang later today. The key topics of discussion at this meeting will be innovations in the tourism industry and organic farming.
The scheme is being implemented through POWERGRID, a public sector undertaking (PSU) under ministry of power in association with Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh.
It is being targeted to be commissioned in phased manner by December 2021 for awarded scope of works and 36 months from RCE approval for un-awarded packages.
The main objective of the scheme is commitment of the total economic development of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim and to strengthen the intra-state transmission and distribution infrastructure in the states by providing grid connectivity to remote distant locations.
The scheme also increase the per capita power consumption of these states, and will contribute to the total economic development.
