Here's how a DC from Arunachal arranged to send meritorious students to Delhi for studies via crowdfunding

Changlang: Despite having 10% of Arunachal Pradesh's population, the districts of Tirap, Changlang, and Longding have only about 2% representation in the state Civil Services. This is mildly concerning, to say the least. Thanks to Devansh Yadav, the deputy commissioner of Changlang, a few students from Changlang can look forward to a better tomorrow.

The IAS officer of Changlang, Arunachal, recently began a crowdfunding drive to send meritorious students from humble backgrounds in his district to New Delhi to pursue higher education.

Yadav, got in touch with Bunnem Tangha, an employee of the women and child development department in the state who had studied in Delhi University to seek out deserving candidates who were unable to go outside the state due to financial constraints.

Tangha was able to find six students of which three district toppers-Longsam Sapong (89.4%), Senthung Yangchang (89.2%) and Leecha Haisa (80.6%)-were selected. Later, two more meritorious students, Karan Thapa

"Their parents were not inclined to send them outside as they had never been outside the state. We thought that going to Delhi would be a good experience for them as they would be able to do more for the community upon their return," DC Devansh Yadav told Inside Northeast. "Their travel charges and all other expenses would be borne by us," he added,

Thanks to the district administration's help, all three will now be headed to New Delhi where they will all be studying Political Science.

The two girls-Leecha and Senthung-were worried about crimes against women in the national capital, and had to be persuaded to leave.

Longsam Sapong, who belongs to a humble background, was planning to study in the state capital Itanagar. But now, he will be going to New Delhi instead.

Yadav has been able to arrange for a hostel in Delhi where the three will stay. A crowdfunding drive was basically launched to cover the expenses needed for fees, food and transportation costs to cover the entire three years of their stay. So far, Rs. 1.5 lakh has been collected. Yadav has confirmed that this initiative will continue in the years to come.
