Union Spiorts Minister and Arunanachal Pradesh Lok Sabha MP Kiren Rijiju on Monday mourned the untimely demise of the American basketball legend, Kobe Bryan, who, along with his daughter, died in a freak helicopter accident in California on Sunday, January 26.

Rijiju, taking to social media platform, Twitter, wrote, "I'm extremely sad as 2-time Olympic Gold Medallist and Basketball legend, Kobe Bryant has died in the Chopper crash. To lose his 13-year old lovely daughter Gianna is even more heartbreaking.."

Kiren Rijiju, in his post, also added that Kobe was an "amazing sportsperson" and a "true Olympic champion."

Basketball superstar Kobe Bryant, 41, and his daughter Gianna, 13, were among those killed in a helicopter crash on Sunday, in California. Seven other people were also believed to have died in the fiery crash, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said. The crash occurred at 10 am near Las Virgenes Road and Willow Glen Street in Calabasas.

According to media reports, the chopper that Bryant was traveling in crashed amid foggy conditions and burst into flames in the hills above Calabasas.

Meanwhile, fellow NBA great Shaquille O’Neal, taking to Twitter to express his grief, wrote, “There’s no words to express the pain Im going through with this tragedy of loosing my neice Gigi & my brother

The 41-year-old spent his entire NBA career playing for the Los Angeles Lakers and personified basketball in the city, winning five championships between 2000 and 2010.
