Union sports minister Kiren Rijiju on Saturday attended the coordination meeting regarding the development of sports infrastructure in the state of Arunachal Pradesh.
Talking to media persons, he briefed about the schemes to develop sports activities on a professional level in the Northeast Indian states.
Rijiju said that being a Sports Minister is a great big challenge, and lamented that the nation is unable to perform at the highest level such as the Olympics, thus a task force has been constituted with a view to crack the Olympic puzzle.
The Union Minister also said that efforts are underway to launch the talents of Arunachal Pradesh to the world stage by improving the sports facilities in the frontier state. "Starting this year onwards, we are going to lay 12-215 astro turfs in Arunachal Pradesh within the next three years to aid the skilled footballers in the State", he said.
Kiren Rijiju said that the state sports authorities will also construct 'youth hostels' to aid the young sporting talents in the state.
The 'Northeast festival' will be organised this year in Arunachal Pradesh to promote traditional as well as conventional sports of all seven northeastern states.
Infrastructure like stadiums, recruiting coaches, sports equipment and many other work will be done to promote sports among the youths, Rijiju has said.
