ITANAGAR: Former Congress MP from Arunachal Pradesh Ninong Ering has expressed serious concerns over claims about China recruiting Arunachalee youths for its People's Liberation Army (PLA).
Talking to InsideNE, Ering said, "The news was published on social media platforms and newspapers few days back. If it is true then it is a serious concern. But, as we haven't get any reaction from the central government in this regard yet. I believe the information published by the media houses needs to be verified."

Ering, in a video posted on August 7 on his Twitter handle, said that the Union Ministry of Defence or Home Ministry should take this matter seriously.
"There is a similarity between the language spoken by the people of the community and the people of Arunachal Pradesh living along the border areas. But this does not necessarily mean that they would like to join the Chinese PLA"
Talking to InsideNE, Ering said, "My motive is to highlight the report so that if it is really happening then it should be stopped, “He added.
Expressing further concern the Pasighat MLA said, "If it is at all true, all I would say is that they [China] should not try to lure our youths to go to the other side with promises of incentives and special perks".
In order to prevent recruitment of youth in militant organizations, Ering suggested that Arunachal government should create new employment opportunities for the youths, whether in Army or in scouts.
"People from Tawang, Anini etc. are capable of climbing hills without oxygen. So, if they are given the opportunity in defense, our youth will prove to be more effective", he said.
