Guwahati, March 20, 2019:

It seems like the BJP’s loss will be the NPP’s gain in Arunachal Pradesh as the party has released the first phase of candidates that it will field in the upcoming Assembly elections in the state which includes many of the departed sitting MLAs as well as two Ministers and the BJP General Secretary.

The BJP party in the frontier state suffered severe setbacks after many key members of the party in the state resigned after they were denied tickets to contest the ensuing elections. The members who resigned include the influential Gamlin brothers Jarpum Gamlin (state BJP General Secretary) and Jarpar Gamlin (Tourism Minister). Another BJP heavyweight from Arunachal who joined the NPP on Tuesday is Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister Kumar Waii. All three have been fielded by the NPP in the ensuing elections.

The Former Arunachal BJP General Secretary Jarpum Gamlin, while talking to InsideNE, said: “Most of the MLAs got the ticket, but a couple of them are pending. They are waiting for the second list. All of us had applied for the tickets.”

Although state BJP Chief Tapir Gao has said that the BJP chose the candidates based on their “winnability” from their respective constituencies, it cannot be denied that this erosion of members and further strengthening of the NPP party in the state is a worrying factor for the BJP party in the state as it attempts to hang on to power after the ensuing elections to be held on April 11 in the State.
