NEW DELHI: Kiren Rijiju, Union Sports Minister and Arunachal Pradesh MP, today said on Twitter that YouTuber Paras Singh has been taken under the custody of the Punjab police for his allegedly offensive remarks against Arunachalees on a YouTube video.
"Punjab Police searched & taken Paras Singh under custody. Arunachal Pradesh Police team is reaching Punjab. I've spoken to the Police Commissioner of Ludhiana for an urgent Judicial process for transit remand as it's inter-state arrest so that he can be brought to Arunachal Pradesh," Rijiju posted earlier today.
In an earlier tweet, Rijiju had said that "such mindset harms the unity of our country. Union Home Ministry had already issued strong advisories to all States & UTs to ensure protection and dignity of North-East People."
It has been confirmed that a team of police from Arunachal Pradesh is on its way to Chandigarh on Tuesday to investigate the 'racial profiling' of Arunachalees by Punjab-based Youtuber Paras Singh.
The YouTuber’s recent video created an outrage among the people of Arunachal Pradesh as well as other Northeastern states.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein strongly condemned the act and demanded an apology. Manipur and Meghalaya Chief Ministers too came in support of Arunachal and condemned the racist slurs uttered by the YouTuber.
In the video, the YouTuber made some derogatory remarks against an Arunachal MLA Ninong Ering, and also mocked the people of Arunachal Pradesh based on their appearance. He even went on to say that Arunachal doesn’t exist in India.
Meanwhile, Adi Baane Kebag (ABK), the traditional apex, appellate and Supreme Council of Adi tribe of Arunachal Pradesh, has already lodged an FIR against YouTuber Paras Singh for his derogatory remarks against the Arunachal MLA and mocking the people of Arunachal Pradesh in a video.
The FIR has been lodged through ABK’s frontal wing Adi Bane Kebang Youth Wing (ABKYW).
Reacting to his racist slurs, ABK Spokesperson Jobom C Mengu said that they would like to ask the YouTuber certain questions including “How should an Indian look like?’, “What names are to be considered Indian names?” and “Where should Arunachal Pradesh be geographically located to be permitted to write to Delhi?”
