The dream of not just the North East United FC (popularly known as the 'NEUFC'), but in fact, the entire Northeast has come to an end. Thanks to three second half goals in the second leg of the semifinals by Miku (72’), Dimas Delgado (87’) and Sunil Chhetri (90+2) in a tense match played under the floodlights of Bengaluru, the home team have knocked the Highlanders out from the ISL and made it to the finals of the championships.
But despite this result, the boys from the Northeast have much to be positive about, as they made the playoffs for the first time and put up spirited fights throughout the tournament. They might have lost the match, but the NEUFC won the hearts of the entire nation through their doggedness and resolve.
The final of the ISL will be played on March 17 between Bengaluru FC and the winner of the bout between FC Goa and FC Mumbai.
