Security forces shot dead two militants in Changlang district in Arunachal Pradesh. One of the slain militants belonged to the anti-talk faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) and identified as Moniram. The other killed militant identified as Hera Singh alias Tomba belonged to CORCOM, a banner organisation of Manipur-based militant groups. Both the ULFA(I) and CORCOM have bases inside Myanmar across the international border at South Arunachal Pradesh. Based on specific information, troops carried out an operation in Shankapani in early hours. Two of the militants fired on the troops forcing them to retaliate, leading to death of the two. Pistols, ammunition and grenades were recovered from the slain militants. The security forces claimed that both the militants were involved in the attack on security forces at Namsai in South Arunachal Pradesh on January 24 last.
