Union Minister Kiren Rijiju Cooks Ethnic Naga Food at Hornbill Fest

Kohima, December 8, 2019:

Union Ministers Kiren Rijiju and Dr. Jitendra Singh, along with Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, were seen enjoying the goodness and flavours of the of the 'festival of festivals', the Hornbill, on its 7th day. At one point, Rijiju was also witnessed cooking ethnic Naga food during his visit.

Rijiju, who was the Special Guest on the occasion, was invited by the Deputy CM of Nagaland, Y Patton, and other dignitaries, and took active part in the festivities.

Later, taking to Twitter, Rijiju wrote, "Thank you Nagaland! A salute to Naga spirit and hospitality. The HORNBILL FESTIVAL depicting rich cultural heritage of the Nagas is breaking all records of tourist footfall !!"

Later, Twitter user Abu Metha uploaded a video in which the Union Minister, ladle in hand, can be seen cooking ethnic Naga food, along with the caption: "Union Minister Kiren Rijiju cooks ethnic Naga Food at the Hornbill Festival of Nagaland. One of the dozens of reasons why a visit to Nagaland is a must is the yummylicious food."

Retweeting the video on his Twitter handle, Rijiju wrote that "It was a genuine ethnic Naga cuisine!"

Seemingly having the thrill of his life, the Union Minister was also seen handling some Naga-made rifle and letting bullets loose in the air. Sharing a video of the experience, Rijiju wrote, "It's been a tradition for Nagas to fire muzzle-loading guns during festivals! The Konyaks and many Naga communities have mastered the art of gun making."
