42nd Shapawng Yawng Manau Poi to celebrate Singpho heritage in Arunachal’s Miao from February 12
Arunachal Pradesh’s cultural landscape will come alive as the 42nd Shapawng Yawng Manau Poi, one of the most important traditional festivals of the Singpho community, is set to be celebrated from February 12 to 15, 2026, at Miao in Changlang district. The four-day event is expected to draw large participation from across the state and neighbouring regions, showcasing the vibrant cultural legacy of the Singpho tribe.
Organised under the aegis of the Singpho Development Society (SDS), the festival will feature traditional rituals, ethnic performances and the iconic Manau dance, performed around the ceremonial Manau Shadung—totem poles adorned with colourful indigenous motifs. The Manau Poi holds deep spiritual and social significance and is regarded as a symbol of unity, identity and ancestral tradition among the Singpho people.
Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Kamlung Mosang, MLA and Advisor to the Chief Minister, will attend as the Chief Patron. Biyuram Wahge, Minister for Health & Family Welfare and Water Resources, will be present as the Guest of Honour, adding to the stature of the event.
The festival’s organising committee is being led by Kumku Gam Singpho as President and Pisi Suriya Singpho as General Secretary. Preparations are underway to ensure a grand and seamless celebration that reflects the cultural richness of the Singpho community.
The celebration is expected to witness the participation of cultural troupes, community elders, public representatives and visitors, reinforcing Arunachal Pradesh’s commitment to preserving and promoting indigenous traditions. The organisers have extended an open invitation to dignitaries and the public to be part of the cultural festivities and experience the heritage of the Singpho community.
