AAPSU election heats up: Four candidates in fray, presidential candidate Likha Akash calls for reform
With the 2026–29 term of the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union fast approaching, the contest for leadership has intensified, with presidential candidate Likha Akash outlined his vision to strengthen student representation and address pressing youth concerns in Arunachal Pradesh.
Akash, speaking to the media, emphasized the principle of rotational representation within the apex student body, stating that inclusive leadership is vital to ensuring equal opportunity for all communities and regions of the state. He argued that structured rotational representation would foster unity, prevent monopolization of leadership positions, and promote balanced participation across diverse student groups.
He further assured that long-pending student issues would be resolved in a time-bound and result-oriented manner under his leadership. Stressing the need for efficient institutional functioning, Akash promised a proactive approach to grievance redressal and policy implementation.
Highlighting unemployment as one of the most critical challenges facing Arunachal Pradesh’s youth, Akash said that employment generation and self-employment initiatives would be central to his agenda. He underlined the importance of equipping young people with skill development opportunities, entrepreneurship support, and better access to career avenues. According to him, student bodies must go beyond activism and play a constructive role in shaping economic opportunities for the next generation.
Reiterating his commitment to transparency and accountability, Akash called for collective leadership within AAPSU, where decision-making would be consultative and inclusive. He urged students across the state to actively participate in shaping a stronger and more united student community for the upcoming term.
The ensuing election has drawn four candidates into the fray — Meje Taku, Debia Muj, Byabang Hapo Dui, and Likha Akash — making the contest one of the most closely watched student political developments in the state.
