Anti-Corruption Bureau secures conviction in Arunachal Pradesh Jang Post Office misappropriation case
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Itanagar, has secured the conviction of an accused involved in the misappropriation of public funds at the Jang Sub Post Office in Arunachal Pradesh.
The development was announced through a press conference and official press release issued by the ACB on May 23.
According to the bureau, the case originated from a complaint lodged by Kusheshwar Pandit, Assistant Superintendent of Post Office, West Division Itanagar, alleging misappropriation of public money amounting to Rs 8,25,803.15 from the closing cash balance of the Jang Sub Post Office as on April 12, 2011.
Following the complaint, the Officer-in-Charge of Jang Police Station forwarded the matter through the Superintendent of Police, Tawang, to the then Special Investigation Cell (SIC), Itanagar, which is now known as the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
Subsequently, SIC(VIG) PS Case No. 01/12 was registered under Sections 409 of the IPC along with Sections 13(1)(c) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
The ACB stated that the investigating officer handled the case with dedication and sincerity, ultimately leading to the conviction of Partho Pratim Baruah, who was serving as Sub Post Master at the Jang Sub Post Office during the period of the alleged misappropriation.
The judgment was delivered on May 14, 2026, by Dr. Hirendra Kashyap, Special Judge under the Prevention of Corruption Act, West Sessions Division, Yupia.
The convicted accused has been sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment.
