Arunachal: AAPSU clarifies position on SIR process after violence at Bordumsa hearing

The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has clarified its position regarding the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the Bordumsa-Diyun area of Changlang district, saying its team was present to monitor the verification process and raise objections over allegedly doubtful or ineligible names.

AAPSU Vice President (Protocol) Nabam Gandhi, along with members of the union, said the organisation’s intervention was aimed at ensuring that the electoral roll verification process is conducted transparently and strictly in accordance with the prescribed rules.

The clarification comes after a SIR hearing at Bordumsa on September 4 turned violent, during which an AAPSU activist was reportedly injured. Gandhi alleged that the AAPSU team was confronted and attacked following a dispute during the hearing.

According to AAPSU, its members were monitoring the process and raising concerns regarding names whose electoral eligibility was considered doubtful. The union maintained that such concerns should be examined through proper verification and due process by the competent authorities.

AAPSU further stated that its involvement in the SIR exercise is focused on verification of electoral eligibility and protection of the constitutional and demographic interests of indigenous communities.

The student body urged the authorities to establish the facts surrounding the incident through a proper inquiry and ensure that the electoral-roll revision process proceeds peacefully, transparently and in accordance with the prescribed legal framework.
