Officials of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam have agreed to maintain the status quo along disputed stretches of the interstate boundary, while stressing the need for dialogue and mutual trust to resolve long-pending issues.
Briefing the media on August 28 evening at the DC office in Yupia, Papum Pare Deputy Commissioner Vishakha Yadav (IAS) said she attended a meeting with her counterparts from North Lakhimpur and Biswanath districts of Assam at Narayanpur in North Lakhimpur district.
The meeting reiterated the commitment of both states to uphold peace and status quo in border areas.
As part of confidence-building measures, officials agreed to organise joint programmes such as sports events and cultural activities to foster cooperation and strengthen ties between communities on both sides.
It was also decided that joint border patrolling will be carried out twice a month to prevent any untoward incidents.
The next regional border meeting has been scheduled for October 2025.
