Arunachal BJP hits back at Congress over SIR claims, defends ECI process
Arunachal Pradesh BJP MLA and party state spokesperson Topin Ete on Sunday, October 4 rejected allegations raised by the Congress and other opposition parties over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, describing the claims as misleading and politically motivated.
Speaking at a press briefing in Itanagar, Ete, who is also the BJP’s SIR co-in-charge, defended the Election Commission of India (ECI) and maintained that the electoral roll revision process was conducted transparently and in accordance with the prescribed procedures.
Ete said the concerns raised by the opposition regarding alleged discrepancies or manipulation in the voter revision process had been addressed during the course of the exercise. He pointed out that the process had reached its formal conclusion with the publication of the final electoral roll.
The BJP MLA accused the opposition of attempting to create doubts among voters by raising allegations after the completion of the revision exercise. He said political parties should focus on issues affecting citizens rather than making claims that could undermine public confidence in democratic institutions.
Ete also reiterated his support for the ECI and its role in maintaining the integrity of the electoral process. He said allegations against the electoral roll revision should be based on verifiable evidence rather than political assertions.
The BJP leader said the opposition’s criticism was aimed at misleading the public rather than identifying any substantive shortcomings in the SIR exercise.
The remarks come amid political debate over the electoral roll revision process, with opposition parties raising concerns over the manner in which the exercise has been conducted in different parts of the country.
