Arunachal BJP holds tree plantation at church, while Nagaland unit faced setback

The BJP conducted a Christian outreach in Arunachal Pradesh by organizing a large-scale plantation drive at the Catholic Church compound in the capital on June 28. This initiative coincided with the death anniversary of BJP's founder Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. Following setbacks in Nagaland, where the cleanliness drive proposal of BJP was turned down by church bodies.

The BJP Kisan Morcha in Arunachal Pradesh carried out a tree plantation drive at the Catholic Church, planting 200 saplings with state office bearers, state spokespersons, and officials from the state-level party. The plantation drive also saw active participation from party workers across the district, including women from the Mahila Morcha.

BJP leaders emphasized that this initiative was crucial for environmental protection, water conservation, and promoting greenery to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change.

Gumsen Lollen, State President of BJP Kisan Morcha, Kohman Lungphi Ngemu, State President of BJP Mahila Morcha, Tai Tagak, former BJP president and advisor to the CM, Kame Yangfo, State President of BJP ST Morcha, Ritenso Manyu, President of BJP Yuva Morcha, Samsung Siongju, President of Minority Morcha, Tadar Niglar, State General Secretary, and Dunggoli Libang, former President of Kisan Morcha, along with many others, participated in the plantation drive at the Catholic church amid heavy rain.

According to Tadar Niglar, it was a week-long social program starting on June 23 to mark the death anniversary of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, the founder of BJP's precursor Bharatiya Jan Sangh. During this period, the BJP organized various social programs such as cleanliness drives and tree plantations.

Tai Tagak, former BJP president, speaking to India Today, stated that this plantation drive was primarily organized by the BJP Kisan Morcha of Arunachal Pradesh unit along with other party workers. "The rain during the drive highlighted the urgency of environmental conservation. Global warming is a pressing issue worldwide, and climate change is a serious concern today. We urge everyone to recognize the value of trees and to plant at least one tree during auspicious events like birthdays and marriages to maintain ecological balance. This event is non-political but organized by our party as a gesture. The church, being a community center, was chosen for this tree plantation drive so that when these saplings grow into large trees, they will benefit the worshipers visiting here. BJP is a secular party and believes in the well-being of all, as stated by PM Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas."

While the BJP's plea for a cleanliness drive in church compounds was rejected in Nagaland, the saffron party is now focusing its efforts on Arunachal Pradesh.
