Arunachal: BJP’s Thingnung Umbu ramps up campaign ahead of Bordumsa Zila Parishad polls

With just five days left for the Bordumsa Zila Parishad Constituency election scheduled for December 14 under the 49th Bordumsa–Diyun Assembly segment, the political atmosphere is heating up as BJP candidate Thingnung Umbu intensifies his campaign across key villages.

The upcoming electoral contest will see a direct fight between Umbu and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidate Mualin Agan. Political observers note that public sentiment appears to favour Umbu, largely due to growing dissatisfaction with former two-time NCP MLA Nikh Kamin, who is widely criticised for failing to deliver significant development in the constituency. This discontent is reportedly boosting the BJP’s momentum in the region.

Continuing his outreach efforts, Umbu on Tuesday conducted a vigorous door-to-door campaign and held meetings in Wagun Pontha and Longkam Pontha villages. The campaign witnessed strong public participation, with more than 400 villagers attending two separate meetings and expressing confidence in Umbu’s victory.

Several attendees told the media that they are committed to ensuring Umbu’s win on December 15, predicting a “massive margin” in favour of the BJP candidate.

The campaign event saw the presence of prominent BJP figures and local leaders, including former Bordumsa–Diyun MLA Somlung Mossang, senior public leader Inem Gam Singpho, former Zila Parishad member Khachang Maio, and BJP leaders Purna Gowala, Ajanta Sonowal, alongside several party workers and supporters.

As the polling day draws nearer, both parties are expected to intensify their final round of campaigning, though early indications point to a strong edge for the BJP in this crucial local body election.
