Arunachal celebrates 77th Republic Day with patriotic fervour, Governor reaffirms commitment to constitutional ideals

Arunachal Pradesh joined the rest of the nation in celebrating the 77th Republic Day with grandeur, patriotism and a renewed pledge to constitutional values, as the tricolour was unfurled amid ceremonial splendour in the state capital Itanagar on Monday, January 26.

Governor Lieutenant General (Retd) K.T. Parnaik unfurled the National Flag at Indira Gandhi Park, Itanagar, marking the official commencement of the celebrations. The ceremony witnessed a colourful parade by police personnel and IRBN jawans, showcasing discipline, unity and service, followed by vibrant cultural performances that reflected the state’s rich and diverse heritage.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Parnaik extended warm greetings to the people of Arunachal Pradesh and underscored the significance of Republic Day as a moment of collective pride and national reaffirmation.

“This momentous occasion reminds us of our unwavering love and commitment to our motherland,” the Governor said, noting that the day symbolises the triumph of democratic ideals and constitutional governance.

Highlighting the broader national context, the Governor said this year’s Republic Day holds special importance as India commemorates the 150th anniversary of ‘Vande Mataram’, the immortal national song, while advancing the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. He described the theme as a reflection of India’s civilisational strength, collective self-confidence and the government’s resolve to build a self-reliant, inclusive and prosperous nation.

Paying tribute to the Constitution of India, Governor Parnaik described it as a living document and a moral compass that guides both governments and citizens in the pursuit of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity. “More than a legal framework, the Constitution is the foundation of our Republic and the guiding force of our democratic journey,” he said.

The Governor also paid homage to the founding fathers of the Constitution and the countless freedom fighters who made supreme sacrifices for the nation. He expressed deep gratitude to the Armed Forces, Central Armed Police Forces and State Police, acknowledging their unwavering service in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and integrity under challenging conditions.
Speaking on Arunachal Pradesh’s role within the national framework, Governor Parnaik said the state, with its strategic importance, cultural vibrancy and enduring harmony, stands firmly aligned with the constitutional ideals of India. He praised the people of Arunachal Pradesh for their resilience, discipline and deep-rooted patriotism.

“The people of Arunachal have consistently demonstrated unity, strength and a profound sense of national duty—values that continue to define and strengthen our democratic fabric,” he said.
Later in the programme, Chief Secretary Manish Gupta, IAS, announced that Gold and Silver Medals would be conferred on deserving individuals during the Statehood Day celebrations on February 20, recognising exemplary service and contribution to the state.
