Arunachal Pradesh joined the rest of the nation in commemorating National Doctors' Day with a grand celebration in the state capital, themed “Caring for Caretakers.” The event was marked by tributes to healthcare professionals and key announcements for the sector’s growth.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu attended the event as the Chief Guest, alongside Health and Family Welfare Minister Biyuram Wahge and Health Advisor Dr. Mohesh Chai. The celebrations were jointly organised by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Arunachal Pradesh and the Arunachal Pradesh Doctors’ Association (APDA) at Waii International Hotel in Itanagar.
The programme commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by the recitation of the Hippocratic Oath, group songs and dances, and a prize distribution ceremony for winners of sports events. A series of cultural performances further enlivened the occasion.
In his address, Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed heartfelt appreciation for the relentless dedication of doctors in the state. He praised the medical fraternity for delivering exceptional service to the people, even in the face of infrastructural and geographical challenges.
“As a token of our gratitude and commitment to strengthening healthcare in Arunachal, I am pleased to announce the establishment of a new medical college in West Kameng district,” CM Khandu declared, drawing enthusiastic applause from the audience.
Retired doctors and healthcare NGOs were also felicitated during the event for their invaluable contributions to society.
Speaking to media, Health Minister Biyuram Wahge highlighted the sacrifices made by doctors and healthcare workers who often forgo personal and family time to serve the people with dedication and compassion. He urged society to recognise and honour their commitment.
National Doctors' Day is observed annually on July 1 in memory of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, a renowned physician and the second Chief Minister of West Bengal, who made significant contributions to India's medical and political spheres.
