In a sudden cloudburst on September 16, Lhallung village near Mechukha was hit by a devastating flood, resulting in significant damage to the area. At least two hydel stations have been severely affected, causing a disruption in electricity supply to Mechukha township and its neighboring regions.
The torrential floodwaters wreaked havoc on agricultural fields, standing crops, houses, water supply systems, and livestock. Fortunately, there have been no reports of loss of human life.
Assembly Speaker and Local MLA P D Sona expressed deep concern over the situation and directed the District Administration to take immediate action and provide all necessary assistance to the affected families. He also instructed the District Administration to conduct a prompt assessment of the damage.
Sona further urged the Power and Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) to initiate the restoration process at the earliest.
In addition, Sona reached out to the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister via phone, emphasizing the urgency of the situation and seeking their immediate assistance in addressing the crisis.
