Arunachal CM Pema Khandu launches GPS-enabled app to track Itanagar garbage trucks
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on October 2 launched a GPS-enabled mobile application aimed at improving waste collection and monitoring sanitation vehicles in Itanagar.
The application, developed by the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC), was launched as Arunachal Pradesh observed Gandhi Jayanti and Swachh Bharat Diwas 2026 under the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign.
Khandu, along with Chief Secretary Manish Gupta, Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso, IMC Mayor Likha Nari Tadar, Deputy Mayor Tok Tebin Camdir and other officials, attended the programme at the Banquet Hall in Niti Vihar.
Earlier, the chief minister paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Udyan Park in Niti Vihar.
The new IMC app uses GPS technology to track garbage collection vehicles in real time. Residents will be able to check the location of sanitation vehicles and hand over their waste when a collection truck is nearby.
The app also allows citizens to report overflowing garbage bins by uploading photographs. These complaints will be sent to the IMC dashboard so that the concerned teams can respond and clear the waste.
Another feature records photographs of a location before and after waste is cleared, allowing officials to monitor whether reported complaints have been addressed.
Sharing details of the initiative on social media, Khandu said the app would make waste collection "smarter, faster and more responsive".
The chief minister also urged residents to make cleanliness part of their daily lives and called for greater public participation in keeping Itanagar clean.
He said maintaining a clean city could not be achieved through government efforts alone and required residents to work alongside civic authorities.
The Swachh Bharat Diwas programme also focused on community participation in sanitation and waste management, with the government seeking to strengthen civic services and improve cleanliness across the state capital.
