Arunachal CM welcomes CBI preliminary inquiry, says “I am very much clean”

Arunachal Chief Minister Pema Khandu has stated that he fully welcomes the ongoing preliminary inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into allegations related to government contracts awarded to firms linked to his family members.

Reacting to the development, the Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister said the state government is extending complete cooperation to the investigating agency and asserted that he is “very much clean” in the matter.

Khandu also accused the Indian National Congress of politicising the issue and said he is ready to answer all questions whenever summoned by the CBI.

The development comes after the Supreme Court of India directed the CBI to conduct a preliminary inquiry into allegations that firms associated with the Chief Minister’s family received multiple government contracts and work orders between 2014 and 2025.

According to the allegations raised in a public interest litigation, family-linked firms allegedly secured 121 contracts and 322 work orders worth more than Rs 1,270 crore during the period. The state government has acknowledged ownership details of the firms in court filings.

The Supreme Court has directed the CBI to submit a status report within 16 weeks to determine whether a formal criminal case needs to be registered.

A team of the CBI has already visited Arunachal Pradesh as part of the ongoing preliminary inquiry, while the state government has reiterated its commitment to cooperate fully with the legal process.
