Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh virtually inaugurated the Nechipu Tunnel, located at an altitude of 5700 feet in the West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh. This 500-meter-long tunnel serves as a vital link connecting the Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh to the Indo-China border, and its completion has been met with appreciation from the citizens and representatives of the region.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu graced the inauguration ceremony alongside Border Roads Organisation (BRO) officials and local leaders. The Nechipu Tunnel, constructed by a Gujarat-based company at an estimated cost of 114 crores, promises to enhance connectivity and accessibility to the border region.
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also dedicated an impressive 90 infrastructure projects to the nation, all constructed by the Border Road Organisation (BRO) at a total cost of Rs 2941 crores. These projects span across ten border states and union territories in the Northern and North-Eastern regions, representing a significant boost to the country's infrastructure in strategically important areas.
The dedication ceremony took place at Devak Bridge on the Bishnah-Kaulpur-Phulpur Road in Jammu and Kashmir. Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated a diverse range of projects, including 22 roads, 63 bridges, the Nechipu Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh, two airfields in West Bengal, and two helipads. Notably, many of these critical strategic projects were completed by the BRO within record time frames, employing state-of-the-art technology.
These projects have been distributed across various states, with a focus on the border regions. Jammu and Kashmir saw 11 projects, Ladakh with 26, Arunachal Pradesh with 36, Mizoram with 5, Himachal Pradesh with 3, and 2 each in Sikkim, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal. Additionally, one project each was dedicated in Nagaland, Rajasthan, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
