Arunachal: Delhi-registered vehicle plunges into Lohit River, 1 dead, 6 injured, 3 missing

One person was killed, six others injured and three remain missing after a Delhi-registered DI vehicle carrying 10 people plunged nearly 300 feet from a road cliff into the Lohit River in Arunachal Pradesh's Anjaw district, officials said.

The accident occurred at around 6 am on August 13 in the Sarti area along NH-113 on the Walong-Hawai road, near the India-China border.

According to the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Anjaw, the vehicle carrying 10 people, including the driver, fell off the road into a deep gorge and subsequently landed in the Lohit River. The vehicle was submerged in the river following the accident.

The incident was reported to the District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO), Anjaw, at around 9:59 am, following which a search-and-rescue operation was launched.

The rescue operation was coordinated by the DDMA Anjaw with the participation of the district administration, Anjaw Police, Indian Army, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local residents and volunteers.

Six people were rescued with injuries, including four men, one woman and one child. One woman was confirmed dead, while three people remain missing.

The authorities have requested the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to join the search-and-rescue operation as the SDRF has limited resources.

Search operations are continuing in and around the Lohit River to locate the missing persons and recover the submerged vehicle.
