Arunachal destroys over 1.37 lakh kg of cannabis plants across 458 acres in West Kameng

A joint multi-agency team has destroyed over 1.37 lakh kg of cannabis plants cultivated illegally across approximately 458 acres of land in Arunachal Pradesh's West Kameng district.

The operation was conducted in the Kalaktang subdivision as the first phase of an intensive cannabis eradication drive between October 26 and November 3, 2026.

The illicit plantations were primarily located on community lands, officials said.

The operation marks a major step in efforts to curb illegal cannabis cultivation in the district. Further phases of the eradication drive are expected to strengthen action against illicit plantations.
